From TVs to radios to magazines, you can see/hear this young lady and learn to appreciate her gift. Inkstarzz.com had a chance to catch up with singer/songwriter formerly of Danity Kane and MTV's "Making The Band 4", Dawn Richard to see what's been going on in her world. Join inkstarzz.com as we chat with Dawn Richard.... Inkstarzz.com: How has everything been going with you? Dawn Richard: It's been great. Inkstarzz.com: How old were you when you started writing music? Dawn Richard: Aww man, that's a good question. 10, which was my first attempt at a song and it wasn't really a good one, but it was an attempt (laughs)! Inkstarzz.com: (Laughs) so, you're from New Orleans. What was it like to perform at home? Dawn Richard: We actually never performed in New Orleans. We went for Mardi Gras, but we never performed there. I feel like if I ever went and performed in New Orleans, I would have a nervous breakdown because that's like my dream to go home and perform at home. So, hopefully one day I will get to do it. Inkstarzz.com: What would you say is the major difference between recording solo and with a group? Dawn Richard: You know, with a group you have that support system. You have someone there to help you and carry the song with you. When you're on your own, everything is reliant on you, which is not a bad thing it's just two different ways to record. You can do your own arrangements and you've got the freedom to do what you wanna do, but with a group you have a support system. It's cool to see the different dynamics of each one but, being in a group, you have that support system. Inkstarzz.com: There's another question I want to ask about New Orleans. Have you ever brought any gumbo up there for everybody so you could show 'em what it's like? Dawn Richard: No haven't because I would need all my stuff from New Orleans to do it. I would need the opportunity to get my Zatarain's seasoning, my crawfish and my crabs and everything (laughs)! Maybe one day. I would love to make some for Que so I'll see how that works out. Inkstarzz.com: So, Is the fame everything you thought it would be? Dawn Richard: Yeah! It's everything I thought it would be. Inkstarzz.com: How is the comic book coming along? Dawn Richard: It's improving. I'm doing some sketches for it this second. The next one will be out in December with the soundtrack. Inkstarzz.com: So are you enjoying it? Dawn Richard: I love it. I love that creating process. I'm so excited. Inkstarzz.com: So you're doing music and comics, will we see you writing any scripts in the future? Dawn Richard: Aww man, the sky's the limit- scripts, acting, all of that. Inkstarzz.com: From watching the show, it seems like you've faced a lot of adversity. What advice would you give up and coming artists on how to stay strong while chasing their dream? Dawn Richard: Prayer, prayer, prayer. That's how you get through it. Inkstarzz.com: Do you have any more reality T.V. shows coming up in the future? Dawn Richard: You never know, you never know. Everybody wants that, so you never know. A lot of people are interested in that. Inkstarzz.com: So, if you could use one word to describe you as an artist, what would it be? Dawn Richard: I wouldn't, because one word wouldn't describe me as an artist (laughs)! I wouldn't use one word. I think the cool thing about me and when I got caught up with Puff and Danity Kane is the freedom to think outside the box. I wouldn't say one word, but I will say that I think that we kinda pushed people to maybe see things differently musically and as people in the industry. Inkstarzz.com: What can we expect in the future from Dawn? Dawn Richard: You know, wait and see (laughs)! Just come along the ride. Get on the train and we'll ride it. I'm not gonna put anything out there, I'm just gonna say great things will be coming. I'm gonna stay humble and keep working hard , but hopefully some Grammys, hopefully a great solo album and everything will fall into place as it should. Inkstarzz.com: Do you want to leave any contact information for your fans? Dawn Richard: danitykanecomics.com and you can hit me on Twitter.com/dawnrichard and on myspace.com/dawnrichard Inkstarzz.com: Ok, thank you for the interview. Interview by: @Sonnie_Inkstar |
