In the times where so many people talk about
doing something to make a difference,
Houston’s own KBXX 97.9 The Box  stepped
up to the plate and did it.

KBXX held its annual “Hip Hop for HIV
Awareness” concert in which they bring some
of today’s hottest artists to Houston and let
the fans get free tickets to the show just for
taking an HIV test and finding out their status.
The beautiful thing about it is that KBXX
managed to get thousands tested for the show and there were over 14,000 participants of all ages
and races. With so much negativity going on in the world, Houston, Texas stood up on Saturday
July 11, 2009 for a positive cause that every other city and state should take as an example and
follow suit.

All of the fans we spoke with were glad to have the opportunity to participate in the “Hip Hop for
HIV Awareness” event. About an hour before the show was scheduled to begin, hundreds of
people started to fill up the arena anticipating the arrival and performances of several major
recording artist such as: Bun B, Day 26, Ginuwine, Pleasure P, Young Problemz and many more.

Inkstarzz.com had the opportunity to catch up with a few fans and celebrities who were in
attendance to get their thoughts on the importance of this event.

“It’s good that they did this. People should get tested to know what they have and what they don’t
have” –Trenice, 15

“This is good because everybody can find out their status and get to see a
free concert” – Jonathan, 20

“It’s a good thing, and it’s free!”- Christi

“It feels good to be a part of the whole HIV awareness in the community because, the way things
are right now, we need more positive things. We are positive here at 97.9 The Box. I’m really
blessed to be able to use a part of my talents to bring people in, in a positive way and help rid the
spread of HIV and AIDS”- Michael 5000 Watts, Swisha House Mix-97.9 The Box

“It’s a great thing, especially when you host a free concert and it’s for a great cause. Everybody
should be checked. If not, you’re showing yourself and your body disrespect”- Steph Jones,
singer/songwriter/model

We at Inkstarzz.com would like to commend KBXX’s 97.9 The Box for this selfless act of community
service and for helping to motivate people to get tested for HIV. 97.9 The Box took a huge step in
helping to rid their city of the spread of one of the world’s most deadly viruses.
