March 15, 2009- Houston we had a problem. The West Coast invaded the city and set the stage on fire on a tour that included The Game and Nipsey Hussle. There was also another artist that some may have been sleeping on. Now we at Inkstarzz.com try our best to give those that are good with ink another place for that spotlight and after seeing this artist in concert, we feel that there is something that we have to do. The artist I'm speaking of is Jay Rock. The Watts California Native is taking over the airwaves with his hot single “All my Life" featuring Lil Wayne. Now no lie, before the concert I only heard maybe 2 songs from him, but now a couple of days later, there are 20 songs on the IPod and one mix tape in the car. One of the things that really caught my eye at the show was the fact that, in the middle of his set, he made time to let his Top Dawg Entertainment label mates share the spot light with the single, "B!%&h I'm in The Club". In my eyes, that was a real stand up move. After the show I had a chance to catch up with Jay Rock and ask him a quick couple of questions about the tour, his label and some other things. Inkstarzz.com: So, how does it feel? You're from California touring around the Country, how does it feel? Jay Rock: It's feeling real good, man. I go out here every night and do what I love to do. Inkstarzz.com: That's what's up. Which city has been the craziest so far? Which one was just poppin? Jay Rock: I gotta say Portland . Portland , Oregon was poppin. Every city was poppin. Everywhere I go, we gettin' love. It's a beautiful thing. Inkstarzz.com: So how long have you been on the mic? Jay Rock: Professionally, going on four years. I was on and off with it. I really wasn't serious about it at the time. N!&&a was in the streets. Rapping was just like I was doin' it cus the homies was doin' it, but everybody was like " you go hard". They was like,” you sick with that s#!t", so I was like f#%k it. Inkstarzz.com: So tell me about your crew Jay Rock: This is Top Dawg Entertainment, man. Shout out to my n!&&a K-Dot, my n!&&a Ab-Soul and my n! &&a Q. Make sure yall be on the look out for them, man. They young and talented. Be on the look out. Inkstarzz.com: What's the name of next single that you're pushing? Jay Rock: My next single is called " Cali [fornia] Soul" featuring me and my n!&&a [The] Game. That's the next California anthem, so make sure yall be on the lookout for that, too. Inkstarzz.com: If you could use one word to describe your flow, what would it be? Jay Rock: My flow is raw, man. It's like my voice is just gutta, man. I represent the struggle, so it's just raw- gutta. Inkstarzz.com: Do you want to leave you contact information for everybody? Jay Rock: Oh, yeah. It's myspace.com/jayrock. Hit me up, I'll holla back. Yall know what it is. Top Dawg Productions. Peep me out on iTunes and make sure yall cop that single and be on the look out. Inkstarzz.com: Alright, man. Thank you for the interview. Interview by:Sonnie V. |
