Most may know him from the Bad Boy group Da Band, but this Platinum selling artist is doing his solo thing now. Strapped with his own label, hot lyrics and a team of supportive fans, Chopper Young City is ready to continue his movement as he lets the world know that is MOE or die Inkstarzz: What's good with you, man? What's going down? Chopper Young City: I'm in a blessed situation right now, ya know? I got a tour bus right now and I'm doing this MOE situation. We going on the road hitting different cities up. I came a long way and I'm doing pretty good. I'm blessed right now, ya heard. Inkstarzz: Oh alright, that's what's up. How is the MOE situation going? CYC: Real good! I can't even stunt with you. I'm nominated for an "Artist of the Year" award at the Ozone Awards this year. It's a big movement right now. I got the idea from a good friend of mine, Pretty Black and we came up with an album. We came up with a situation together. He ended up getting killed and, you know, Baby really gave me the idea when I was rocking with the Cash Money situation for a second. I wasn't signing with them or nothing, but they just my people. I ended up running with it and now I'm doing my thing and I'm a boss with this. We all our own boss. There ain't no foot soldiers, we are all our own bosses over here. It's a pretty good situation. This MOE thing is very powerful. Inkstarzz: I feel that, man. There were a lot of rumors saying that you were signed to Cash Money, too. CYC: Yeah, a lot of people said that. I was in a lot of situations where I was about to, but I know them boys so it was kind of a conflict of interests. Wayne is over there. He's number one over there. I'm already number one at what I do and I can't be number two at this rate. I got to be number one. I'm in a better situation. Inkstarzz: What's the biggest difference in being with a major and having your own? CYC: Freedom! (Laughs) on the major, it ain’t really no big difference, ya dig? It's just the connections. It ain’t a money issue, it's the connect situation. If you on a major, they do more for you because there are more people in different districts that are working your record. On an independent label, you still got the connections from being on your major label, but people act like they don't believe because they don't know. Your job out there is to make them believe, for them to catch on and work your records out there. That's the difference. It's the outcome. You can work with a major and be famous as f#%k and be a thousandaire or you can be independent and go through the struggle, go through all the trials and tribulations and become the richest n!&&a off of just putting your s%!t out. It goes how you want it to go. They wouldn't be major if they weren't independent first. Inkstarzz: That's true. How are you feeling about the music industry right now? CYC: It sucks because the dope rappers ain’t getting their opportunity, but at the end of the day, you can't stop a n!&&a that hustled his way into this rap game. You get the bittersweet. You get the winners with the losers. The best man steps up. In a bigger industry, it's about the best man stepping up. No matter if you're doing it with your money, your swagger or however you get it. It sucks to me though because[the] Joel Ortiz and the Busta Rhymes', motherf&%kers don't ever get their day-to-day [or] their proper respect. The Soulja Slim, the Mac, the n!&&as who really put it down. It sucks, to tell you the truth. To me, it sucks because by the time Soulja Slim got his props, he dead and gone now. It just hurts. I think there needs to be more real motherf&%kers in there who recognize real motherf&%kers who can keep this s%!t going, keep this s%!t pumping. It feels like we in a body but we don't have the brain or the heart. I definitely know that we are missing the heartbeat. We got the brain, we know what the f&%k we're doing, we are just missing the heartbeat. I want to be one of the young pioneers that can bring the heartbeat back. Inkstarzz: So, what do you think is stopping the heartbeat? Would you say it's a certain region that's killing it, or.... CYC: Motherf&%kers aren't doing it out of genuine things. N!&&as are cutthroat. N!&&as just going in and they [are] sharking. You can be a shark, I'm a shark please believe that, but you can't be a massive shark. You got to feed motherf&%kers. You got to help motherf&%kers upbringing. You got to help motherf&%kers overcome and motherf&%kers don't want to do that. These n!&&as want to come in so they can milk it and they be rich and the rest of the n!&&as are hurting. You got to feed n!&&as .That's the only way to multiply. N! &&as can't multiply if you are the only n!&&as that's adding up. That's how I feel about that. Inkstarzz: You were introduced to the world by "Making the Band". Do you have anything that you learned from Puff that you are putting into your own label? CYC: Everything! Everything I learned from Puff I put into my label. I'm just trying to be a young boss of my own world. I don't want to be like Wayne. I don't want to be like Jay-Z. I don't give a flying f&%k about them to tell you the truth. I love their music. I want to be like no motherf&%king body. These n!&&as haven't stepped in my feet. They don't know how it feels to be Uptown and got it how I lived in New Orleans and Baltimore and all these places where I have lived and struggled and grinded and did what I had to do to get where I need to be, so I don't want to be like nobody. I' m such a boss, bruh, its ridiculous. Shout out to them though, but I'm me. Inkstarzz: How was it working in a group, like with "Da Band"? Would you consider doing the group thing again? CYC: I would never do a group... well I aint gon never say never. I won't ever try to, even if it goes through my mind, I'm alright. I don't like being in a group. I like getting to the money. N!&&as don't like getting to the money. Motherf&% kers got issues and I don’t have s%!t to do with that. That was the thing with "Da Band" situation. We were successful, but we also had issues. I didn't want all that s%!t. I'm a solo artist and I got my own imagination. Even with "Da Band" I d@mn near wrote everything. The only n!&&a on there with a solo song. I got it in on there. I did me. I got my publishing. I got my royalties, you know what I'm sayin? I don't like that s%!t. That shit was boring, but it was a great opportunity to help me become who I am right now. Inkstarzz: Do you have any regrets about the Bad Boy situation at all? CYC: Never. I appreciate everything that happened to me because if I didn't know what I know now, I would be talking to you right now. I appreciate how my time was taken. I like it. It's fun to me. I love everything that has happened because I'm not hurting, I'm hella icy and my team is eating. It's MOE or die, that means Money Over Everything so you know what we already making. I' m in a good situation. I'm a hustler. I'm not just from New Orleans, I have been a lot of places in my life to know how this s%!t go. It's the place that raised me, but I got it popping in a lot of cities before the "Making the Band" s%!t so I already know what to do. At that time, during the "Making the Band" s%!t, I was kind of young also. I'm an animal, bruh, a machine. I love Diddy, to tell you the truth. He's just a little cutthroat, but I got love for him because he gave me an opportunity when Baby didn't give me an opportunity, [Master]P didn't give me an opportunity. Nobody that I admired gave me the opportunity. It's not because I wasn't talented because they didn't know. He gave me a chance. Inkstarzz: Any more reality TV or acting? CYC: Oh, yea I got a couple little things in the works. I've got "Life after the Thang" coming and also I did a little deal with YouTube. We got "Life with MOE", "Welcome to MOE" s%!t. So if you go to YouTube, you can check that out. All you got to do is type in Chopper Young City. The MOE movement is the biggest thing that's going on right now in the streets, I promise you that.[On] datpiff.com you can get all Chopper Young City mixtapes featuring Lamborgini,City, Hotboy, everybody. You name it. I even got major artists from Gucci Mane to Wayne to whomever. I do my thing. I'm 23 years old. A lot of Motherf&%kers don't even know I'm young like this. I'm young! I 'm holding it down. I'm young and I'm doing me. N!&&as stunting, I'm stunting too! That's how I roll. I got my own mind, my own everything. I was influenced by these n!&&as back in the G, now I influence myself. I know what I got to do. Inkstarzz: That leads me to this next question. What keeps you so motivated? What keeps you going? CYC: Honestly, I don't have anything else to live for. If this s%!t don't work, it's a wrap. I'm going to be the mass murderer, the biggest drug dealer, whatever! I'm going to be what America doesn't want me to be. They don't want to see that so it's best to let me do me here. That's what motivates me. I'm not like the average kid. I'm smart as f&%k, but I'm from the streets. I have passed the biggest s%!t in school or the biggest s%!t anywhere because I got brain, but I'm also deep in these streets. This is my life. I roll with real n!&&as, real blood n!&&as, untamed gorillas. These n! &&as don't be bout what they talking bout, I'm bout what I'm talking bout. Everything that I say is real. Check my coattail. Ask about me. Google me. That's how I'm rocking, ya heard me. "Young, fly, rich and pretty. My boss is no longer Diddy, I'm silly", ya heard! (Laughs) Inkstarzz:(Laughs) Is the groupie love as good as everybody says it is? CYC: The groupie love? Inkstarzz: Yeah CYC: F&%kin right! Groupie love is one of the best things in this s%!t! I love it! Back in the G, I was a young juvie and I had a few h%s, but I wasn't nothing like this here! This s%!t is beautiful, playboy! This s%!t is wonderful. It's a beautiful life. I mean b!%&#*s that I wouldn't have even imagined eating d!%k and eating P&$$y. This s%!t is extravagant. I love it! It be the same h%s that used to dog me back then. The same h%s that you have to work hard to get. This s%!t is like robbing a bank. This s%!t is easy. That groupie love out there is wonderful, but you got to be cool out there these days. You got to wear like ten condoms, f&%k 'em! B!%&#*s be having motives. B!%&#*s have stolen my jewelry before out of the hotel, b!%&#*s be taking the little turkey little squeeze thing and take the nut out of the condom and squeeze it in herself. Man s%!t real! (Laughs) but I love it, though. I wouldn't trade this s%!t in for the world. You get your struggles, but you get your hustles also. Your bad times are really bad, your good times are really good. The best thing to do is, when you get your good times try not to keep F&%king up. When you get your good times, keep your s%!t, invest your s%!t, keep it moving and go to another venture because this Hip-Hop s%!t is not promised to nobody. There ain't no retirement plan in this rap s%!t. You get in, do what you need to do as much as you can do it and jump to another mission. It's the hustle. This s%!t is a lick, but you got to love this. I love this s%!t. It ain't just a lick, I love this s%!t but at the end of the day, it's all about the money. It's all about you feeding your family. Are you doing it for the money? I can't do this s%!t because of (inaudible) all that s%!t. F&%k that s%!t. All that "I love Hip-Hop" s%!t. I love Hip-Hop because that's what I do. I grew up on this s%!t. I know the whole history of Hip-Hop. I listen to the dopest n!&&as in the world, Which is why I'm one of the dopest n!&&as in the world, but it's time for me to prove this s%!t. Inkstarzz: What's one word that you would use to describe your flow? CYC: Immaculate. Inkstarzz: I feel that, man. CYC: I'm better than a lot of these n!&&as out here. Datpiff.com, type in Chopper. You'll see what I'm talking about; "MOE volume 1", "MOE Volume 2", "The Re-up" mixtape. I've got "All Eyes on Me" mixtape. I 've got bookoo s%!t out right now. myspace.com/officialyoungcity, n!&&as know how to get to me. Inkstarzz: What do you have coming up in the near future? CYC: "Platinum Plus", baby. N!&&as claiming that they the real Chopper, but when they see me, they shook in their drawers. Stop saying you this and you that if you ain't about your actions. That's all I'm gonna say about that. N!&&as talking all that s%!t and as soon as they see me, they shook because they know we are strapped and ready and we looking so rich. N!&&as don't know whether to look at the jewelry or look at the toolie. Young city, that's all I've got to say. MOE or die. Money over everything, that's what it be like. Inkstarzz: Alright, thank you for the interview Interview by: Sonnie Vanison |
